Hop on the Bus (Both of Them!)

July's Drink SF Beer shuttle route includes a hop over to Portola-based Old Bus Tavern (3193 Mission St.), bringing a full-restaurant option to the Bayview Line in addition to fulfilling the role of official Meet the Brewers host.

But, of course, it's about the beer, and Old Bus has earned its laurels. In short order after opening two years ago, a creative list of favorites emerged showing head brewer Bennet Buchanan's range: Lemon Basil Saison featuring Meyer lemon zest and frech basil; Into the Mild, a classic English Mild and lovely low ABV option; and Chile Porter with both roasted and fresh Poblanos (mild heat and fruitiness, respectively) plus cocoa nibs for chocolatey richness.

In that spirit, Buchanan will hold court at 5:30pm to share insights on brewing with adjuncts, including foods like lemon zest, basil, chiles and more, as well as discussing the important impact of enzymes and fining agents. The popular Lemon Basil Saison will be on tap that night to provide a real-world example.

Then, at 6:30pm, shuttles will begin looping nonstop between Old Bus and Ferment.Drink.Repeat, Laughing Monk Brewing Co., Seven Stills Brewery & Distillery and Barebottle Brewing Co.

Shuttles run from 6:30-10:30pm, stopping at each venue roughly every 10 min., providing plenty of time to visit the neighborhood and enjoy great beer and food at each of these local breweries.
